KUPPET Dismisses TSC Promotions for 25,252 Teachers

Shortly after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) released information regarding the promotion of 25,252 primary and post-primary school teachers this year, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Vihiga criticized the teachers’ employer for what they describe as unclear promotion results.

In a statement to the media, KUPPET’s Executive Secretary in Vihiga, Sabala Inyeni, condemned TSC for only providing the employment numbers of the promoted teachers without including their names, counties, or new positions.

Sabala expressed concerns about the lack of transparency in the promotions that occurred earlier this year, suggesting that some regions in the country may be disadvantaged by the recent TSC promotions.

The list published on TSC’s website merely shows the employment numbers of the 25,252 promoted teachers, leaving county officials puzzled about how many of their members have been promoted.

KUPPET also claims that the ambiguous list may be concealing misconduct.

Union officials in Vihiga are now urging TSC to republish the list with the names of the promoted teachers, their counties, and their new roles.

This year, TSC has been allocated Ksh1 billion for teacher promotions, as the commission prepares for a wave of retirements expected between June and August 2025.
