Latest caution to teachers, public from TSC

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has warned teachers and the general public against falling prey to fraudsters. Through a public notice titled ‘Fake Social Media Accounts,’ the Commission says some fraudsters have opened fake social media accounts and purport to be running the accounts on behalf of TSC. “It has come to the knowledge of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) that some individuals have been opening fake social media accounts (FaceBook, Twitter and Instagram) purporting them to be operated by TSC Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nancy Njeri Macharia. Apparently, some of the accounts are opened with fraudulent intentions,” reads the warning by the TSC boss, Dr. Nancy Macharia.

This warning comes as the number of fraudsters is increasing with vulnerable members of the public falling prey. The fraudsters are taking advantage of the desperate job seekers to mint thousands of Shillings from them.

The Commission goes ahead to list the official media platforms. “It is notified for public information that all TSC official matters are handled through the Commission’s media platforms,” adds the TSC boss. The official TSC media platforms, as given in the notice, are:

Few weeks ago, a local media house revealed how scammers preyed on unemployed teachers in Southern Nyanza. According to its report, unemployed teachers were asked to pay between Sh75,000 and Sh150,000 to get Teachers Service Commission (TSC) posting letters. The scammers could even draft fake letters and present them to the unsuspecting job seekers.

This week, the Public Service Commission, PSC, was forced to come to the rescue of many job seekers by quashing an advertisement doing social media rounds on alleged job openings at government institutions. PSC boss Simon Rotich warned the general public that the advert was fraudlent. “We wish to caution potential applicants to ignore the advert, which we suspect is motivated by ill intentions of defrauding them,” warned Rotich. “The Public Service Commission has clear procedure of declaring vacancies in the public service, using authentic media platform, and the commission websites,” he further stated.

The fake advert has 650 Office Secretaries posts, 1225 posts for Clerical officers and 931 posts for assistant agricultural officers. See a screen shot of the fake advert below;
