List of elected Kuppet National Trustees – Roles, Salaries

The union’s new Trustees elected in December 2021 have formally assumed their roles. They are Mr Jacob Karuraa from Embu branch, Mr Charles Mukhwana from Busia, Mr Ali Bash from Wajir and Permanent Trustee Tom Chariga.

The Trustees hold custody of the union’s property and assets. They keep inventory of the union’s property at both national and branch levels. They are the officers who oversee the handing over by the outgoing office bearers and taking over of office by new officials after elections.

During the 23rd Annual Delegates Conference held in Eldoret on 18 December 2021, the delegates elected three new Trustees to shepherd the union for the next five years. To ensure regional balance, three positions are spread into three regions consisting branches in Western, Nyanza and Rift Walley; Nairobi, Central and Eastern; and lastly Coast and North Eastern. One Trustee position is reserved for the founder of the union, Mr Chariga, who is a permanent Trustee.

To emerge the winner, a candidate had to get the highest number of votes amongst his or her opponents from the same regional cluster, and the positions were hardly fought. Nairobi, Central and Eastern who had three candidates: Flamwell Nyaga Mbaka, Yvonne Mutinda Musyoka and Mr Karuraa who emerged the winner.

Mr Karuraa is the only Trustee who retained the seat from the outgoing cohort, and is now the longest-serving trustee of the union, having been elected in 2016. He is the current Executive Secretary for Embu branch. An old boy of Kangaru School, he is also a former branch chairman in Embu.

The Coast and North Eastern candidates were Ummi Wando Maloba, Shedrack Mutungi, Yussuf Abdullahi Mohamed, Lynette M. Kamado (who was defending), Claudia Timothy and Mr Bash who emerged the winner. The Western, Nyanza and Rift Valley candidates were Saruni J. Tasur, defending Trustee Furaha Lusweti, Dherok Peter Ochieng’ Omolo, William Lengoyiap and the eventual winner Mr Mukhwana.
