Lugulu girls high school students strike over alleged rape attempts and negligence

Form four students at Lugulu girls high school staged peaceful demos on Monday night over what was reported as attempted rape on the girls by outsiders.

Trouble ensued when the form four students started screaming and making a lot of noise demanding to be addressed by ministry of education officials since the school management were adamant.

School Principal Mrs Dina Cheruyot immediately called the local police who responded promptly. According to police reports it was established that ‘on 5/12/2020 at about 0445hrs one of the students namely Cheryl Nabalayo aged 16yrs while taking bath, alleged that an unknown male person attempted to rape her, but she raised alarm making the suspect to flee.’

Police further say ‘the same morning, the school administration was informed about the incident but no action was taken, which led to the demonstrations.

Luckily enough, no injuries or damages were caused during the demos.

But, speaking to the media, the Principal said there is no way an outsider could find his way into the well fenced school compound and which is under CCTV surveillance.

“Our school is well fenced and protected. We have CCTVs everywhere. No stranger can enter the school unnoticed.” She said.

This incident comes after a similar one happened at Moi Girls High School in Nairobi, last year.
