Maseno School to host Nyanza Region Term 1 Games 2026
The venue for the 2026 Nyanza Region Term 1 Games has been shifted from Kisumu School to Maseno School. This follows an inspection that was carried over the weekend to ascertain Kisumu School’s readiness to host the games.
According to reports from the inspection, Kisumu Polytechnic ground that had been earmarked to host Rugby and Athletics is in a deplorable state following the heavy rains pounding the area.
Consequently, the event has been shifted to Maseno School and Maseno University; within Kisumu County.
The event kicks off on Tuesday March 17th with mouth watering clashes on the offing. On Tuesday, referees who will be manning the matches would be expected to report at Maseno School for coordination clinics. Action will kick off on Wednesday up to Saturday.
The regional games will feature Basketball, Rugby 15’s, Hockey, Handball, Athletics, Cross Country, Heptathlon and Decathlon.
In Basketball, high octane clashes are expected. In the Boys’ category, Kisii will be represented by newbies Kisii School who dethroned 9 times champs Nyanchwa Boys. St. Mary’s School Yala will represent Siaya County while Nyambaria Boys will be flying Nyamira County’s flag.
Hosts Kisumu County will be represented by Maseno School and Kisumu Boys.
Kisii School emerged champions after edging out archrivals Nyanchwa Boys High School 102–89 in a dramatic final played behind closed doors at Moi Gesusu Boys High School; on Monday.
The high-scoring encounter saw Kisii School end Nyanchwa’s long-standing dominance in Kisii County basketball, crowning a new champion after an intense and closely contested rivalry clash.
The final had initially been played on Friday at Kisii School but was halted in the first quarter following an incident that prompted the match officials and tournament jury to intervene. After reviewing the situation, the jury directed that the game be replayed in a neutral venue.
The rematch was therefore staged on today at Moi Gesusu Boys High School , where Kisii School produced a commanding performance to defeat Nyanchwa Boys 102 – 89 and seal the title.
Kisumu County will later host the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association, KSSSA, Brookside National term one games.
