Ministry of Education Begins Recruitment of Teachers for Special Needs Education Course

The Ministry of Education has declared the recruitment of currently serving teachers for a full-time Special Needs Education (SNE) Diploma course lasting two years at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) starting in 2025.

The program is aimed at current Teachers Service Commission (TSC) personnel who are interested in specialising in instructing learners with disabilities.

In a statement, the ministry urged qualified teachers to apply for the in-service course, with areas of specialisation including visual, physical, and hearing impairments; intellectual disabilities; autism; and deafblind education.

Teachers who are interested in this intake have been instructed to obtain the application forms from the ministry’s website or visit their county and sub-county education offices.

“Serving TSC teachers who wish to be considered for admission to KISE for the two-year full-time SNE Diploma in-service course are advised that application forms are now available and can be downloaded from the Ministry of Education website or obtained from the nearest CDEs/SCDEs’ offices,” the statement from Education PS Julius Bitok stated in part.

Additionally, once the application forms are completed, the county education offices will need to submit them to the ministry’s head office in Nairobi.

“Completed application forms must be personally submitted by the applicant to the SCDE by May 9, 2025. All applications should by the SCDE office be sent to Jogoo House B, Room 710, 618/19, no later than May 16, 2025. ”

Applicants should be Kenyan citizens who are under 50 years of age, hold a P1 certificate, and have a minimum of five years of service as TSC teachers.

Bitok stressed that there would be no charges for teachers during the registration process.

Each applicant must present their application in person and provide both original and certified copies of their academic and professional documents, a national ID or passport, a recent passport-sized photograph, and other pertinent testimonials.

The PS pointed out that applicants who are visually impaired do not need to write their application forms by hand.

Successful applicants will receive SMS notifications providing details on how to retrieve their admission letters.
