RE: INTRODUCTION OF KENYA SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR (KSEF) TO JUNIOR SCHOOLS IN 2026.

In the recently released 2026 Calendar of Co-Curricular Activities, it was indicated that KSEF will be for both Junior and Senior Schools.

The Workshop involving the MOF Officials, KSEF Officials, Head of Institutions representative, Junior School teachers’ representatives among others discussed the issue of initiating Science & Engineering Fair as one of the Co-Curricular activities in Junior Schools. The workshop came up with the following guidelines: –

1. For the 1st two years (2026 & 2027), KSEF Junior will be a sub-set of KSEF senior/Secondary schools and they will be held together.

2. The director of Education at each level will organize for the harmonization of the budgets and funding for the Junior and Senior/Secondary schools

3. In the existing KSEF conumittees at each level, the Junior Schools representatives will be incorporated. They include: – a) A KEPSHA representative and a A Science teacher to work as the Co ordinator of Junior schools KSEF.

4, After 2077 Co-curvicular Activities, KSEF in Junior Schools will be a fullyfledged activity with its own elected committees. Also, the categories will be increased.

5. The KSEF planning/training workshops organized at the SubCounty/ County levels will have to incorporate the Junior School teachers,

6. Initially, the Junior schools will participate in six (G6) categories. These includes: –

  • Mathematical,
  • Chemical & Physical Sciences
  • Biological & Ecological Sciences
  • Agriculture
  • Technology & Engineering
  • Energy & Transportation
  • Social & Behavioral Sciences

The guidelines on presentation and judging will be released through the existing KSEF structures who are expected to be the mentors of the Junior Schools in their areas.

The purposes of this Circular is to enlighten you on the initiation of the Science and Engineering Fair in the Junior Schools and request you to ensure that the activity picks up in your County/Region.
