MP Ndindi Nyoro explains move to meet teachers ahead of TSC Recruitment

Over our journey in serving the people of Kiharu, we strive to consult and listen. Today we met Education Sector stakeholders drawn from Kiharu majority of who were TSC registered teachers. We also had attendees from other Constituencies. Over 800 attended and we had officials from the relevant sub sectors within Education. MCAs from Kiharu also attended.

We strive to make our decisions on a data driven approach and that has always helps in optimising our resources.

Among the issues we are considering are as below;

1. Our meeting with Principals of our Day Secondary Schools a while ago identified several gaps especially in teaching staff.

2. While TSC will be recruiting a significant number of teachers and interns, given the number of our Junior Secondary Schools are over 31,000 nationally, each school will hardly manage to get one teacher at best on average. This number will need to supplemented.

3. With over 60 Senior Day Secondary Schools in Kiharu, we also established that the expenditure on BoM employed teachers is the number 2 expenditure line of Day Secondary Schools from food expenses. Some of the funding comes from Kiharu NG – CDF through Bursaries.

4. We therefore must prepare to supplement the efforts by TSC and GoK by assisting our Schools get additional teachers in January thorough Kiharu NG – CDF Bursary kitty recruited through BoMs.

5. We are therefore matching the combinations of subjects we have locally with the requirements of our Secondary Schools with the aim of being meticulous and methodical in hiring our BoM staff who are over 120 teachers.

6. We will also be partially assisting teachers in furthering their education to enhance quality delivery of service to learners.

7. We shall be considering a mix of salary and partial scholarships through Bursaries for teachers who will be employed through BoMs and wish to further their education.

8. We will have a special Bursary kitty for teachers willing to study combinations that we will establish are scarce in Kiharu for easier “employability”.

9. On on infrastructure, we are planning to refurbish including tilling all our Day Secondary Schools this Financial year. Kiharu NG – CDF will also be taking part in bridging the infrastructure gap as we transition to CBC in January.

10. Progressively, we will seek to have BoM employed teachers considered as interns when TSC is recruiting. Interns of over 3 years score 15 marks, 2 years 10 marks and 1 year 5 marks. This should apply to BoM teachers too since their pay is more voluntary.
