President William Samoei Ruto has launched the National Climate Resilience Programme, also referred to as ClimateWorX Mtaani, aimed at creating 200,000 job opportunities for youth across the country.
This initiative focuses on engaging young people in environmental projects within their communities, including the greening of urban spaces and the cleaning and rejuvenation of rivers in Kenya’s cities.
ClimateWorX is a transformative intervention that seeks to restore ecological balance while maintaining public infrastructure and housing through labor-intensive and sustainable public works.
ClimateWorX Mtaani stands as an example of the government’s commitment to addressing environmental issues while creating jobs.
ClimateWorX Mtaani will involve collaboration with local governments, NGOs, and private sector partners to ensure successful implementation.
The initiative offers a unique opportunity for 200,000 young Kenyans to gain hands-on experience in ecological restoration, public infrastructure development, and sustainable urban planning.
The ClimateWorX Mtaani Initiative will make cities more liveable by focusing on urban greening and river restoration. This is a crucial step in addressing Kenya’s environmental challenges while providing meaningful work for young people.
Climate WorX Mtaani is a National Government climate action and livelihoods initiative that will engage the youth in environmental sustainability programmes including the 15 Billion National Tree Growing Programme.
The program introduces innovative approaches to environmental management and job creation, integrating modern techniques with traditional practices.
The first phase of the program will start in Nairobi County on October 1, 2024, where 20,000 youth will be onboarded to initiate these activities.
The project highlights the government’s commitment to fostering environmental sustainability while addressing youth unemployment.
