NTSA urges road users to exercise caution as schools close for holidays

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is urging all road users to be vigilant as school children head home for the holidays.

In a statement, the authority called for cooperation among all parties involved in road transport, including law enforcement, parents, school administrators, transport providers, and students, to ensure the safe travel of children.

“Careful supervision of children and choosing safe vehicles for their transport are essential for their safety,” NTSA emphasized.

The authority also cautioned against reckless driving, stating that strict measures will be taken against drivers who violate traffic laws.

Over the past six months, NTSA has suspended 288 driving licenses and required 420 drivers to undergo retesting due to reports of misconduct, speeding, and safety compliance issues identified through the Intelligent Road Safety Management System (IRSMS) and public complaints.

Additionally, the authority has encouraged the public to report any instances of dangerous driving to the police to help prevent accidents during the Easter holiday.

“NTSA will enhance its efforts through close collaboration with the National Police Service during the Easter celebrations, focusing on monitoring driver and conductor behavior, ensuring vehicle safety compliance, and providing road safety education through the Usalama Barabarani initiative.”
