A teacher in Nyamira County is receiving treatment for injuries at a hospital in Ikonge after being attacked by the school principal for allegedly arriving late.
Vincent Onyancha reported that he was slapped and kicked in front of his students.
He stated, “I arrived at school a bit late, and the principal entered my classroom and assaulted me while I was teaching. He kicked and slapped me, then dragged me to his office and continued to hit me.”
Speaking to reporters in Ikonge, representatives from the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) condemned the incident and urged the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to take legal action against the principal. They warned that teachers would strike in protest if no measures are taken.
Erick Magak, the TSC Director in Nyamira County, confirmed that the case has been received and an investigation is underway.
