Nyanza, Western may present more teams to the National School Games, KSSSA

The Ministry of Education is mulling over the introduction of Prorata in the National Secondary schools’ championships.

According to the Nyanza RDE, Edwin Sifuna, NYlyanza and Western (for example) ought to present more teams in soccer while Rift Valley fronts more participants in Athletics.

‘The level of competition in some disciplines is very high in some regions than others. We are opening discussions on how we would allow more teams to proceed to nationals from regions like Nyanza and Western in Soccer.” Said the Nyanza Regional Director of Education, Edwin Sifuna.

While addressing referees and Coaches at Kasagam Secondary school in Kisumu today during the opening ceremony of this year’s refresher clinics, the RDE said discussions have been opened to see how best more talents will be tapped at the National school games.

He said it was unfair for regions that have more talents and only having one slot at the nationals.

According to Sifuna, such regions should be allowed to present more teams at the Kenya Secondary schools Sports Association, KSSSA, games.

Kisumu Day, Agoro Sare, Usenge and new entrants Onjiko are some of the schools from Nyanza that are playing competitive football.

The Western region is a hotbed of soccer with Ebwali, Kakamega School, Shanderema and Bukembe leading the pack.
