Only 20 percent of 2020 form ones captured on Nemis, education ministry sounds warning

A total of 223,240 form ones have been captured on the Education Ministry’s National Education Management Information System, Nemis. This is according to the latest data by the Ministry which is keen to ensure that all the 1083456 who sat the 2019 KCPE exams transit to secondary.

“As you are aware the Ministry of Education is implementing the 100% transition policy of students from Primary to Secondary Education”, reads a circular by the Ministry’s Elyas Abdi.

In the Year 2020, the reporting date
for Form One students was from 13th January, 2020 and ends on Friday January 17, 2020.

In order for the Ministry to monitor the transition and actual reporting, the Ministry decided that all Form One admissions be done through Nemis. But, schools have not found it easy using the system due to constant sometimes. Many schools thus resorted to manual admissions.

According to the Ministry, a total of 223,240 form one students have transited as per the Nemis, translating to a transition rate of 20.7% as at 16th January, 2020 at 1.20 p.m.

The Ministry is now directing schools to ensure all learners are captured on Nemis.

” You are required to give this assignment the highest priority,” adds Abdi.

On Wednesday, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha directed schools to admit all Form One students; including those who may have less fees than required in First Term in the spirit of the 100 per cent transition policy.
