In the fiscal year 2024–2025, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) advanced 25,252 teachers across the country, representing a notable progress in educational leadership, teacher retention, and motivation.

This initiative benefitted educators in elementary and secondary schools, covering job groups C2 through D5.

The most frequent promotions occurred in Grades C4 (8,508) and C3 (4,971), followed by D1 (5,425). Given that only 47 teachers were promoted to D5, advancement to higher administrative levels was less common, illustrating the competitive nature and limited availability of such high-level roles.

For example, Bomet County distinguished itself with 527 teachers promoted, ranking among the counties with the highest number of advancements. The distribution was as follows:

C2 – 31
C3 – 108
C4 – 162
C5 – 120
D1 – 38
D2 – 20
D3 – 44
D4 – 3
D5 – 1

These promotions align with the TSC’s broader mission to ensure career growth, enhance teacher morale, and ultimately elevate the standard of teaching and learning throughout Kenya. They also aim to improve school management systems and address existing administrative deficiencies.

Counties such as Wajir, Lamu, and Tana River experienced relatively fewer promotions due to smaller staffing bases compared to counties like Machakos (679), Meru (678), and Makueni (668).

The TSC has assured that the promotion process followed strict merit-based criteria, which encompass performance, leadership potential, years of service, and qualifications.

In the following weeks, communications regarding deployment are expected to be sent to the teachers who have been promoted.

This initiative has been broadly celebrated by the education community as a gesture of appreciation for the dedication and hard work of educators.
