Police to recruit 10,000 officers this year: Check minimum requirements

Senior Police Officers at a past event. The Government is set to recruit 10,000 new Police officers this year.

The government will this year recruit at least 10,000 police officers, Interior Principal Secretary PS Raymond Omollo has said.

The new Police officers to be recruited include 8,000 constables and 2,000 cadets.

PS Omollo says the national assembly allocated a budget for 5,000 police recruits, but the ministry will engage MPs to increase it to enable the government to double the number of recruits

“We are trying to plead with MPs. We will work with government officials and elected leaders so that more young people are recruited to the police service,” PS Omollo announced.

Latest Requirements for Police Officers’ Recruitment

1. Original ID.

2. Birth Certificate.

3. KCSE Certificate.

4. Certificate Of Good Conduct though it is not necessary but it will be added advantage to you.

5. K.R.A Pin Certificate.

6.Other Certificates i.e (Diploma or Death Certificate Of Parents ‘In case You’re An Orphan’

7. Must Be A Kenyan Citizen.

8. Must Be Of Age Between 18 – 26 Years.

9. Must Have No Any Criminal Record.

10. Must Be Physically Fit.

11. KCSE Mean Grade D (Plain) And Above.

12. Minimum Height For Both Men And Women:
5 Feets.

13. Minimum Weight For Men:
54.5kgs.

14. Minimum Weight For Women:
50kgs.

15. Any Serious Injury In The Body,, with Tatoo Automatically You’re Disqualified.

16. Ladies Should Not Be Pregnant At The Beginning Or During The Process Of Training.

The government has not conducted police recruitment for the last three years despite increased security challenges and the deployment of Kenyan officers to conflict-torn countries like Haiti.

Kenya has not met the globally recommended police-to-population ratio of 1:450 as data from the Kenyan National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) estimated a ratio of 1: 688 in 2021.

Speaking at Miruya area in Uriri Sub-County, Migori County, PS Omollo vowed to have a fully equipped police station with police officers established.

“We will bring services closer to the people,” he said.
