President Ruto orders that schools remain closed until further notice

President William Ruto has ordered the Ministry of Education to postpone the reopening date for the Second Term 2024 until further notice.

The President in his address on Friday afternoon said the current floods were making it unsafe for learners to report back to school.

President William Ruto said that the reopening date for schools which was scheduled for this Monday has had to be varied.

“Transportation has become challenging due to flooded and damaged roads and bridges. Sadly, we have not seen the last of this perilous period as the situation is expected to escalate. The rains will persist in duration and intensity for the rest of this month and possibly after.” Said President Ruto.

The President said the coming days are unpredictable and Kenya may be faced by more challenges.

“Meteorological reports paint a dire picture. The rains will persist, increasing both in duration and intensity for the rest of this month and possibly after. Kenya may face its first ever cyclone, which may hit at any time” the head of State reported.

The government of Kenya has taken the following steps to mitigate the devastating impact of the present crisis:

✅️Marked dams that are full and present imminent danger

✅️Areas prone to landslides and mudslides have been identified as high-risk areas

✅️Relocation notices have been issued to people living in unplanned settlements within riparian lands.
