UPDATE: What You Will Need To Register For SHIF Ahead Of July Rollout

Beginning July 1, 2024, the government will completely phase out the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and transit into the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) as part of its commitment to provide Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

This includes your details such as name, employment type, ID number, civil status, date of birth and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) pin.

2. Address and Contact Details:

Provide details of your physical address, personal and business contacts, county of residence and postal address. Those residing abroad are required to reveal their state of residence and ZIP code.

3. Declaration of Dependents

List details of dependents as stated in their ID cards such as name and date of birth. Also reveal the relationship you share with your dependent and preferred Primary Care Networks (PCNs). A PCN is any facility that provides healthcare services to the community.

4. Updating/Amendment

This section remains open for when you will seek to amend any information provided in the future. This includes marital status, change of name, change of dependents etc.

5. Declaration

The final part involves appending your signature to the document to confirm that all the details provided are accurate. If unable to write, you can also provide your right thumbmark as a fingerprint.

Instructions

When filling out the document, you are required to write in capital letters. Don’t leave any blank section, if not applicable write N/A.

The form will be used as a valid proof of one’s registration to the SHIF scheme. Those seeking to update their forms should check the appropriate section and indicate the correct data.

In the new plan, Kenyans will be required to part with 2.75 per cent of their monthly salaries towards the scheme with the minimum capped at Ksh.300.

Under NHIF, Kenyans pay an average ranging from Ksh.150 to Ksh.1,700 for employed workers and Ksh.500 for the self-employed.
