Registration of Junior Secondary Schools; Education Ministry officials to inspect all private and public primary schools

Education Ministry officials are set to inspect all private and public primary schools in an exercise geared towards identifying Junior Secondary Schools.

Via a circular titled; ‘RAPID RESULTS INITIATIVE IN REGISTRATION OF JUNIOR SECONDARY
SCHOOLS (JSS) INSTITUTIONS’, the Ministry of interior has instructed security officers to collaborate with MoE officials.

The President working party on Educational Reforms released a preliminary report that recommended domiciling of junior secondary schools in existing public and private primary schools.

Junior secondary schools learners are
expected to report on 30th January 2023.

In order to establish the readiness of the primary schools to receive and admit the grade 7 learners the Ministry of Education has scheduled a countrywide assessment of all public and private primary institutions between 9th and 20th January 2023.

The assessment will adopt a rapid results initiative involving Education, Teachers Service Commission Secretariat as well as National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) in the Regions, Counties and Sub County levels.

The Teachers Service Commission is currently recruiting over 30,000 teachers to handle JSS learners.

TSC will recruit a total of 35,550 teachers for primary and junior secondary school teachers.

9,000 vacancies will be for permanent and pensionable secondary school teachers and 1,000 primary school tutors.

TSC will also hire 21,550 teacher interns for junior secondary schools and 4,000 for primary schools.

“Successful candidates will be posted to any primary or junior secondary school in the county where they were interviewed or in any part of the country where the vacancy exists,” TSC says via a notice.

According to the notice,”Successful candidates for Junior Secondary Secondary Schools will be required to teach various learning areas under the Junior Secondary Curriculum,”

All Grade 6 students who completed their Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will transfer to junior secondary schools housed in existing primary schools.
