Secondary School Games: Several teams banned as KSSSA introduces new requirements

The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association, KSSSA, National Executive Committeee has banned several schools from participating in this year’s championship. This is after the schools were found to have used ineligible players last year.

The body that runs Secondary School games has also sent a stern warning to schools which will disrupt the activities this year.

“Any school that disrupts any Ksssa championship either by fighting or fun trouble will face a ban.” Says KSSSA Secretary General David Ngugi.

Koderobara and Nyabondo banned for one year.

Top on the list of banned schools is Kodero bara soccer team and Nyabondo volleyball teams. The two schools face a one year ban and will resume in 2026.

Several people were injured after fans caused chaos during a match between Nyanza region football champions, Koderobara Secondary School and Musingu High School in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national ball games at the Gusii Stadium, Kisii County.

The match resumed and ended with Musingu emerging the winners.

The rowdy fans started throwing objects into the field after Musingu scored a goal, causing the match officials to suspend the match for 30 minutes to ensure police brought the situation under control.

On their part, Nyabondo High School (Nyanza Region), which recently finished third in Volleyball Boys at the KSSSA Term 2 Games in Kisii, has been banned after being found guilty of fielding three ineligible players. As a result, they lost their third-place slot to Hospital Hill High School from Nairobi. Nyabondo was also barred from representing Kenya at the 2024 East Africa Secondary School Games in Mbale, Uganda.

Butula Boys’ Rugby 15’s Team Banned

Also facing the chop is Butula boys’ rugby team which has been banned for one year for fielding an ineligible player during the feasssa games last year.

Kamito Boys’ Handball team to feature again

It is a reprieve for Kamito handball team from Rift valley whose two year ban has ended. The school will now feature at this year’s games.

Kamito Secondary School’s Handball Boys team was suspended for two good years after playing an illegible player during a KSSSA National Term One preliminary match against Hospital Hill in 2023 at Hill School in Eldoret. The match handed ended with 31 goals against 29 in favor of Kamito.

During the 2022 KSSSA National Games, Kamito had played finals in Nakuru with Hospital Hill Secondary School and managed to beat them 13 goals against 12 which gave them a chance to represent Kenya during the FEASSSA games in Tanzania; that year.

“All the bans await official letters from the National office of KSSSA.” Ngugi adds.

Alara School’s Soccer Team on KSSSA’s Radar

Elsewhere, Alara Girls school’s soccer team from Nyanza awaits a warning letter for not presenting the right number of players during the National games held at Kisii School last year.

Schools must enter Players in KSSSA Portal.

Meanwhile, KSSSA has instructed all schools to register their players on its portal. The which captures all the player’s details will replace the current manual system where teams present hard copies.

“No school will be allowed to play in this year’s activities without registration in the Ksssa ICT portal.” Ngugi directs.

KSSSA Calendar

The Coastal Region will Host the 2025 Term One Secondary School Games from 5th to 13th April 2025.

Term One will feature Rugby Fifteens, Athletics, Basketball 5×5, Hockey, Handball Cross Country and Swimming.

“All regional games should end before 15th of march 2025 to allow for all documents to reach the Ksssa secretariat by 17th march for scrutiny.” KSSSA’s David Ngugi directs.
