Secondary School girl delivers baby in pit latrine

A girl from Koiyet Secondary School in Bomet County gave birth in a pit latrine on Monday morning, disrupting school activities. The Form Four student discarded the baby in the latrine and then returned to class.

Chepalungu sub-county police chief Phanton Analo reported that the school principal alerted authorities after the 19-year-old was seen bleeding heavily while sitting in class, which led her classmates to seek assistance.

When the teacher on duty arrived, they discovered that the student had hidden the fact that she had just given birth after using the toilet. The principal organized staff and community members to help retrieve the baby, and both the mother and infant were taken to Sigor sub-county hospital before being transferred to Longisa County Hospital.
