SHA is working- TSC Teachers told

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has reassured teachers that the newly rolled-out Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF) is fully operational and delivering healthcare services to teachers and their dependents across Kenya.

Duale said the scheme, administered by the Social Health Authority (SHA), has already served over 249,000 teachers, with total claims exceeding Sh3.5 billion, and that teachers are accessing care in 2,823 public and private facilities nationwide.

“To set the record straight and dispel the narrative that teachers are being turned away or denied care, the data speaks for itself,” said Duale.

A breakdown of claims shows that several counties are recording high utilisation rates of the medical cover.

Nairobi County leads with 30,766 claims valued at Sh527.7 million. Uasin Gishu follows with 29,212 claims worth Sh463.2 million.

Meru County has recorded 34,189 claims amounting to Sh243.8 million, while Bungoma County has posted 29,743 claims valued at Sh237.6 million.

Duale assured teachers that the Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and SHA, is monitoring the scheme closely to resolve any challenges and guarantee uninterrupted services.

Teachers are encouraged to access healthcare from SHA-contracted facilities with confidence, as the government remains committed to their welfare and that of their families.
