Shocker as TSC revokes employment letters for recently employed Teachers
A report has emerged indicating that 13 teachers who had initially received employment letters from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have had their letters revoked.
This development follows a dispute over the allocation of replacement slots, where Marimanti Sub-County was assigned 42 positions, while Chiakariga Sub-County received none.
In response, the Member of Parliament for Tharaka Constituency formally petitioned TSC, seeking clarification on the criteria used in distributing the replacement slots. The concerns were raised in an official letter dated 13th march 2025.

The Tharaka branch Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) also strongly condemned the withdrawal of the appointment letters, terming the move unjust and deeply concerning. He emphasized that revoking already-issued employment letters is not only unfair but also sets a worrying precedent.
Amid growing concerns, a closed-door meeting was held yesterday between KNUT Secretary General Mr. Ndia Gwatia and the incoming Tharaka Constituency MP, Hon Paul Mugambi ,HSC. The meeting focused on the implications of the withdrawal and potential solutions for the affected teachers.

Hon. Mugambi assured stakeholders that he would engage the relevant authorities, in collaboration with Hon. Gitonga Murugara, to push for the creation of additional replacement slots to accommodate the affected teachers.
Hon. Mugambi reaffirmed his commitment to engaging the community in meaningful dialogue and working towards a sustainable resolution. He pledged to continue advocating for fairness in teacher recruitment while striving to foster unity and inclusivity within Tharaka Constituency.
Meanwhile, athe Thirteen P1 teachers from Tharaka South, who had been employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) but later lost their appointment letters, staged a protest on Thursday at Marimanti market.
The teachers marched to the TSC offices before proceeding to the office of Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara.
However, they were denied entry by security personnel at the gate.
Speaking via phone, the MP stated that he would advocate for them in the future.
However, he also revealed that their positions had already been reallocated to teachers in Chiakariga Sub-county.
Elsewhere, Tharaka Constituency Member of Parliament, Gitonga Murugara has demanded for equity during TSC recruitments.
In a passionate address to the media, MP Gitonga Murugara has expressed his deep frustration over the perceived inequities in teacher employment by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in the Tharaka Constituency.
The MP highlighted the disparities affecting the three sub-counties of Chiakariga, Tharaka South, and Tharaka North, calling for equal representation in the recruitment of teachers.
Murugara encourages that as the TSC continues to hire educators, it is imperative that each sub-county receives equal opportunities.
He stated, “When the TSC is employing teachers, all sub-counties should have equal numbers. It is unfair that some areas are sidelined, and those affected must be compensated.”
