TSC ABANDONS UNEMPLOYED PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS, ANNOUNCE RECRUITMENT FREEZE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Hundreds of thousands of unemployed primary teachers will be on their own for at least up to June 2027 after the Commission’s budget proposals for the 2026/2027 failed to allocate even a single cent for their Recruitment.
The budget proposals, tabled before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Education, shocked the Parliamentarians who questioned why the employer hadn’t factored Recruitment plan for primary school teachers. Acting TSC Boss Eveleen Mitei tabled the proposals.
Ms Mitei responded by revealing that the Commission has a surplus in primary schools thus they’ve redirected hiring focus to Junior and Senior Schools, which according to the data from TSC has a deficit of 116 000 teachers.
After the Teachers’ historic State House visit in September last year, KNUT boasted to have agreed with President Ruto, an agreement that according to Collins Henry Oyuu, the Union’s SG, Ruto had assured them of more employment opportunities based on teacher’s year of graduation – affirmative action.
The current developments will see thousands of P1 Certificate holders continue languishing in unemployment.
