Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good morning!
It is a profound honor to join you this morning for the release of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results. Indeed, this is a landmark moment for our country.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I extend the Commission’s deep gratitude to our teachers who prepared, supervised, invigilated, and marked the assessments. I also appreciate the officers who oversaw curriculum supervision and coordinated the entire KJSEA process. Your dedication, professionalism, and resilience ensured this national exercise was conducted with credibility and integrity.
In 2025, a total of 176,628 teachers supported the administration of the KJSEA: 24,277 Centre Managers, 26,632 Supervisors, and 125,719 Invigilators in addition to all teachers who participated in the stage-based assessments nationwide. Your unwavering commitment made this milestone possible. On behalf of the TSC, I celebrate all our teachers for this commendable job.
The success of KJSEA confirms the shift in the assessment landscape, moving us away from the previous one-off, high-stakes examinations to a more holistic approach that values:
1. Practical skills
2. Creativity
3. Critical thinking
4. Problem-solving
5. Continuous leaning, and growth
This transition demanded courage, adaptability, and a strong learner-centred approach from our teachers. I sincerely applaud them for embracing the Competency-Based Education system and its assessment model. They have shown remarkable flexibility and innovative leadership, realigning instructional approaches, guiding learners, supporting projects, and preparing them for assessments that prioritize skills over memorisation. Teachers are true champions of this reform and the backbone of the successful rollout of CBE and the K)SEA. We salute them.
To our pioneer 2025 KJSEA Learners, your assessment from 27th October to 6th November was basically your “boarding pass” to Grade 10 in January 2026. Congratulations on crossing this milestone. However, remember this wasn’t the finish fine but just a stop on your adventure.
Colleagues, as a Commission, we remain dedicated to tackling teacher shortages with measurable speed. We appreciate Government support, which has enabled us to recruit 76,000 teachers in the past two years to strengthen CBE delivery. I wish to inform you that another 24,000 Junior School teacher interns will report in January 2026. I thank His Excellency, the President, Dr William Ruto for availing the resources and making it possible for the TSC to recruit these teachers to accelerate STEM education and track the recommendations of the 2023 Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER).
Further, a total of 9,159 vacancies were advertised; 7065 for Primary Schools, 12 for Junior Schools and 2082 for Secondary Schools. We expect this to replace exits through natural attrition.
I wish to also Inform teachers that the Commission is finalizing the promotion of 21,313 teachers across grades. This is a motivating opportunity for every eligible teacher to seize. Thanks to the Government for the additional funds.
The lingering question now is: how will this larger, stronger workforce reshape learning outcomes in our classrooms?
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Commission continues to prioritize retooling teachers for CBE. So far, over 229,000 Primary School teachers and 84,165 Junior School teachers have been trained.
As we speak today, 30,800 Senior School teachers are being retooled to ensure they are ready for the delivery of CBE to learners who will report to their schools in January, 2026. This will ensure the teachers are competently ready to meet the Grade 10 learners’ diverse needs, affirming our commitment to quality education in all public schools.
I wish to assure the Country that our teachers are ready and prepared to receive the Grade 10 learners in our Senior schools.
As I conclude, allow me to thank everyone again for participating In the 2025 KJSEA; The Teachers, Parents, Officers, Multi-agency stakeholders and all who prepared our learners, you shape the nation.
Your dedication drives us to serve you better and strengthen our education system. Let us push together for the quality education every Kenyan child deserves.
