St. Anthony’s Boys High School Kitale’s Location

St. Anthony’s Boys High School Kitale was established in 1969 in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County, Kenya.

At its founding, it was known as Kitale Day Secondary School, created to provide affordable secondary education to boys from Kitale town and the surrounding rural areas who could not access boarding schools at the time. It operated purely as a day school, with limited facilities and a small student population.

In its early years, the school faced a major setback when a devastating fire broke out and destroyed a significant part of its infrastructure. This forced the temporary relocation of students, especially candidates, to nearby institutions such as teacher training colleges within Kitale. Despite this challenge, the school community remained resilient, and efforts were made to rebuild and restore normal operations. This period marked an important turning point, as it led to renewed planning and gradual expansion.

During the 1980s, the school began to grow steadily. It expanded its academic programs and was upgraded into a more established secondary institution. Around 1987, the school introduced Advanced Level (A-Level) classes, mainly focusing on arts subjects.

At the same time, it began developing boarding facilities, slowly transitioning from a purely day school into a mixed day-and-boarding institution. This expansion attracted students from a wider region beyond Kitale.

As the school continued to develop, it came under the sponsorship of the Catholic Diocese of Kitale, which played a key role in shaping its identity and growth. Under Catholic sponsorship, the school adopted the name St. Anthony’s Boys High School.

The Church helped strengthen discipline, administration, and moral guidance, while also supporting infrastructural development and academic improvement.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, the school experienced rapid expansion. It increased from a single stream to multiple streams, eventually becoming a three-stream and later a four-stream school. Student enrollment grew significantly, and more teachers were recruited.

The school also improved its facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, dormitories, and sports infrastructure. During this time, it fully transitioned into a boys’ boarding school, although its roots as a day school remained an important part of its history.

From the 2000s to the present, St. Anthony’s Boys High School Kitale has built a strong reputation across Kenya.
