Student Covers 14km To Seek Form One Admission

A 14-year-old boy from Kimilili Constituency in Bungoma County has surprised many after walking for more than 10 kilometres to seek Form One admission at Teremi High School armed with only an admission letter.

Napali told the KNA that his grandmother who was his sole guardian died last month leaving him helpless and without anyone to sponsor him.Stephen Napali, who attended Orec Primary School for orphans scored 355 marks in KCPE examination and was unable to join Form One on August, 2nd due to lack of basic necessities and bus fare to facilitate him reach school.

“I was living with my grandmother who unfortunately passed on last month before I reported to school,” he stated, adding that at the moment he has nobody to take care of him which made him trek for 14 kilometres to school.

On Thursday last week Stephen trekked from Bahai village in Kimilili constituency to Teremi School in Kabuchai constituency.

Teremi High School Deputy Principal, Wanyama Munoko told the press that they have received the student and confirmed that Stephen Napali was indeed selected to join the school with the registration number 266.

Mr Munoko added that they will ensure that the student gets education and enough support so that he realizes his dream.

“As a school we have taken the initiative to admit him to ensure the student gets education and appealed to well-wishers to assist in providing other personal requirements and any other support to keep him in school,” Mr Munoko said.

Maximilla Obimba, who is in charge of Guiding and Counseling at the school said the boy will receive requisite counseling needed so that he doesn’t feel isolated.

She also appealed to well-wishers to come to the aid of Napali to ensure that he enjoys his high school life.

Josephine Bwoka, the Head Teacher of the Orphanage school confirmed that Napali was one of the needy students in her school who passed the exams with flying colours and was very committed.

“Napali was living with his grandmother after the father attempted to throw him into river Nzoia and a good Samaritan rescued him,” she said.
