Tea Company Enriches Nandi Schools with Donations of Learning Resources and Furniture

Eastern Produce Kenya (EPK), a prominent tea producer in Nandi East Sub-County, has generously contributed essential educational resources, including junior school science labs, secondary school ICT facilities, and specialized furniture for students with special needs. This initiative is part of the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), aimed at uplifting the local community through enhanced educational opportunities.

Taboiyat High School has been equipped with a new ICT laboratory, while Sireet, Kaputi, and Chemomi junior schools have received fully stocked science laboratories. Additionally, three primary schools with Special Needs Education (SNE) units—Nandi Hills Township, Lelwak, and Kibabet—have benefited from EPK’s thoughtful donation of adaptive tables, chairs, and instructional materials.

During a ceremony at Kaputi Junior School to unveil these contributions, EPK Company Director Leah Kibiii emphasized the company’s dedication to bolstering the education sector, asserting that education is vital for the nation’s economic development. She highlighted EPK’s ongoing efforts to ensure local students are well-prepared for the competitive tech-driven world, mentioning a scholarship program launched last year that has already supported seven students, including one with special needs.

Kibii reiterated the company’s mission to strengthen the foundation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, aiming to enhance the quality of the Competence-Based Curriculum and better equip students for the job market. “We embarked on this journey last year, and our goal is to provide as many students as possible with the necessary resources,” she stated.

“Education is an investment in our future, fostering social stability, improving livelihoods, and driving long-term economic growth. We aspire to promote lifelong learning opportunities within our community.”

EPK’s Operations Director, Noel Smith, echoed these sentiments, noting that the company’s initiatives align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which guide their community impact efforts.

“Today, we are here to reaffirm our commitment to the SDGs and to ensure inclusive and equitable education for our neighboring communities,” Smith remarked.

Boniface Kinoti, Director of the Equity Group Foundation, who attended the event, praised EPK’s management for their steadfast dedication to supporting local education. He highlighted that such initiatives empower children from less privileged backgrounds, providing them with valuable opportunities for growth and development.
