If you’re a 2024 KCSE candidate, here are Top 7 important things you need to know:

As we await the official release of college and university placement results by the CS Ogemba Migos, here are a few important things to keep in mind:

1. You’ll only be placed in one of your six course choices.

In most cases, students are placed in their 2nd or 3rd choice — unless your cluster points significantly exceeded the cut-off for your 1st choice based on last year’s data. This year, cluster points are expected to be more competitive due to the 70,000+ additional students joining university compared to last year.

2. If you’re not happy with the course you’ve been placed in, there will be a window to request a change.

Changing your course or university is possible during the course transfer period, though the process can be frustrating and doesn’t always guarantee success. Still, it works for some.

3. You can also request a course change within the same university after reporting.

Most institutions allow inter-faculty or course transfers within the first two or three weeks of admission, depending on availability of a vacancy and qualifications.

4. Being placed by KUCCPS doesn’t automatically mean you’ve secured a scholarship.

KUCCPS is only responsible for placements. Scholarships and financial aid are handled separately by HELB & HEF

5. A few days after placement, you’ll be able to download your admission letter from the website of the college or university you’ve been placed in.

6. Next, apply for HELB and the government scholarship.

After you submit your application, the government will assess your level of financial need and place you into a funding band, which will determine how much of your tuition is covered.

7. Start preparing financially — aim to raise at least Ksh 100,000.

This is a good starting point for most universities & courses. If you don’t have the money, don’t panic — organize a fundraiser (harambee). Invite friends, family, and community members. Many students before you have done it and succeeded
