The 2025–2029 CBA Proposal Includes Up to Sh48,761 Risk Allowance, Which Is Great News for Teachers.

Teachers will see positive changes as the 2025–2029 CBA proposal recommends a risk allowance of up to Sh48,761.

With such proposals, these instructors would be compensated for difficult, occasionally dangerous, situations they encounter while carrying out their professional responsibilities.

In terms of the suggested risk allowance structure, teachers in higher job grades will receive more support.

The highest risk allowance for teachers in job grade D5 with a salary of Sh243,808.50 is Sh48,761, which is the 20% of their basic pay. Under the existing proposals, this will constitute the greatest amount of risk-based compensation.

In the lower job levels, the allowance would gradually decrease.
Teachers in job group D4 will earn 45,348.66 shillings, followed by those in groups D3 and D2, who will earn 41,428.16 and 37,168.89 shillings, respectively.

The levels for intermediate administrators at grades D1 and C5 will be Sh32,769.54 and Sh27,877.85, respectively.

The suggested grants of Sh24,788.52 and Sh21,861.08 will be advantageous to classroom instructors in job grades C4 and C3, who are typically assigned to remote and dangerous locations.

Teachers in lower job categories C2 and C1—specifically, Sh14,521.26 and Sh18,186.04—would receive risk allowances.

With the backing of teachers’ unions, the TSC plan is seen as a timely measure to lift teachers’ spirits and acknowledge the dangers they face in other areas.

It also aligns with the continuing demands for improved compensation for teachers in disadvantaged areas.

The new CBA, once implemented, would significantly help rectify imbalances that benefit Kenyan teachers across all job categories.
