TSC boss Dr Macharia addresses teachers’ medical concerns, orders others to work from home

TSC Boss Dr. Nancy Macharia has now ordered teachers aged 58 years and above together with those with pre-existing conditions to stay at home.

The TSC boss said that it is a Presidential directive and the teachers will not be sacked for staying at home.

“As this is a presidential directive, your employers will not sack you. The TSC has negotiated for teachers to be covered for Covid-19-related illnesses.” Said Dr. Macharia.

Macharia directed that teachers aged 58 and above can be utilised in marking and developing schemes of works.

She further revealed that teachers can use *202*07# as the new USSD tool to report cases.

Dr. Macharia further announced that teachers would now be covered for illnesses related to the coronavirus. “The TSC has negotiated for teachers to be covered for Covid-19 related illnesses,” she said.

Macharia who was speaking on Monday, during the presser to release the revised school calendar, urged teachers to come up with strategies to ensure syllabus coverage.

“I kindly urge teachers to employ innovative approaches to ensure full syllabus coverage is achieved in a desirable manner.” She added.

She at the same time commended teachers for safeguarding learners’ lives as the country grapples with the covid 19 pandemic.

“We have been impressed by the work done by teachers in helping students navigate the new regime of wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands regularly.” Macharia noted.

This announcement came shortly after the Ministry of Education announced the resumption calendar for all schools in the country.

According to the cabinet secretary for education Professor George Magoha, all schools in Kenya will reopen on January 4, 2021.
