TSC refutes claims of massive deployment of P1 teachers to Junior Schools

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has refuted claims of massive deployment of P1 teachers from the current primary schools to Junior Schools. The Commission while responding to a supposedly fake circular on Social media said the contents of the said circular (attached below) were incorrect and misleading.

“Please beware of the fake post circulating on social media. Remember to always verify information from our communication channels.” Said TSC on its official social media platforms.

DEPLOYMENT OF P1 TEACHERS TO JUNIOUR SECONDARY SCHOOLS.

The fake circular while quoting the TSC Boss Dr. Nancy Macharia sends a stern warning to TSC County Directors, their Sub County counterparts and Curriculum Support Officers for allegedly transferring ‘unqualified’ P1 teachers to teach in Junior Secondary schools.

“It has come to our attention that primary school teachers have been deployed to teach in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS)by the Heads of Institutions (HOIs), which is not within their mandate. Teacher deployment is the responsibility of the Teachers Service Commission” reads the circular in part.

The Commission is grappling with serious staffing needs at Junior Secondary Schools as the intermediate level now has three classes; Grade 7, 8 and 9.

Despite the attempts to recruit new teachers and posting them to JSS, there are still enormous staffing shortfalls in the schools as compared to Primary and Senior Secondary Schools.
