TSC Teachers to Benefit from New Two-Year Programme Organised by Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education announced the launch of a two-year in-service diploma programme for active teachers within the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The training, set to take place at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), is planned to commence in 2025 and will concentrate on Special Needs Education (SNE).

The new initiative equips teachers with the necessary skills to educate learners with various disabilities, which include individuals with visual and hearing impairments, individuals with autism and other intellectual disabilities, those experiencing physical challenges, and those who are deafblind.

It falls under the broader ministry’s commitment to inclusive education throughout Kenya.

In-service teachers who fulfil specific criteria are invited to apply for the scholarship.

Thus, candidates must be Kenyan citizens aged under 50, have a P1 teaching certificate, and possess at least five years of teaching experience with TSC.

Additionally, verified copies of the candidates’ original academic and professional credentials are needed, as well as a national ID or passport, a recent passport-sized photograph, and all requisite supporting documents.

Teachers wishing to apply for the programme can obtain the application forms from the ministry’s website or from education offices at county and sub-county levels. Completed forms must be submitted in person to the Sub-County Director of Education (SCDE) by 9th May 2025.

The SCDE offices will send the applications to the Ministry’s headquarters at Jogoo House by 16th May 2025.

The enrolment of teachers through the application procedure has included provisions for those with disabilities.

For instance, individuals who are visually impaired will not be required to submit their applications in handwriting.

On the contrary, Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok stated that no registration fee will be charged, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring this process is accessible and inclusive.

Successful applicants will be contacted via SMS regarding how to obtain their admission letters.

This training programme is expected to significantly enhance the skills of teachers in effectively supporting special needs learners, thereby facilitating the ideal of equal educational opportunities for all students in Kenya.
