The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, will hire 25,000 teachers immediately.

This was announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu. He was peaking on Wednesday during the 46th Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Conference in Mombasa.

“In the outgoing Financial Year, we have employed 36,000 new teachers and in the next Financial Year will hire an additional 25,000 teachers,” CS Machogu said.

“We will deploy these teachers in our schools in a manner that reflects equity.”

Machogu said that the Kenya Kwanza government is fully committed to ensuring the education sector blossoms.

According to the 2023-24 Budget, TSC received Sh316.7 billion, half of Sh 628.6 billion which was the full amount allocated towards the education sector.

The Commission also received 4.8 billion for the recruitment of 20,000 intern teachers.

Teachers Service Commission chairperson Jamleck Muturi said the government will advertise the recruitment of teachers immediately. Prospective teachers can keep track on the TSC recruitment here.

Muturi added that Sh4.6 billion has been set aside for recruitment, Sh1 billion for promotions, and Sh1.3 billion for capacity building of the teachers on the competency-based curriculum.

“TSC got a good amount of money… amounting to Sh323.7 billion. Sh4.6 billion has been set aside for the recruitment of 20,000 teachers on contract. By next week, we will put up an advert so that qualified people can apply for these jobs,” Muturi said.

The Ruto Government has promised to employ more teachers in order to plug the huge shortfall in public schools.
