TSC to roll out massive teacher employment and transfers in 2024

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will re-deploy 18,194 excess teachers in public primary schools to areas experiencing low staffing to ensure balance in teacher distribution across the Country.

According to Dr.Macharia, the implementation of Competency- Based curriculum(CBC) in primary and Junior Secondary Schools, has shaken up the staffing levels since the number of classes in the primary school level has reduced by two classes (Standard 7 and 8),which has significantly reduced teacher requirements in primary schools.

The tsc boss also notes that the additional one class in 2024 (Grade 8) in JSSs has created staffing shortage of 42,117 teachers at this level, where the number of teachers required this year is 99,045 against the current 56,928,for this reason the Commission plans to employ 20000 teachers in the next financial year 2024/2025 to address the staffing shortage.
