TSC trains more than 291,000 teachers to ensure the effective implementation of CBC

TSC trains more than 291,000 teachers to ensure the effective implementation of CBC.

The Teachers Service Commission has provided training to over 291,134 teachers to help them effectively teach the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Peter Kega, a director at TSC, spoke at the National Conversation on Competency-Based Education (CBE) and mentioned that out of the 291,134 teachers trained, 229,292 are primary teachers, 60,642 are from junior secondary schools, and 1,200 are from teachers training institutions, as of April 25th, 2024.

Kega reported that the training has given the teachers the skills they need to improve the way they use CBE. The teachers are actively involved in shaping the curriculum.

The teachers receive professional support after their training, as the government sees training as an ongoing process. So far, 7,200 teachers nationwide have received professional support from the government.

The government’s DLP wants to use technology in schools to improve education, and has been successful in introducing this initiative nationwide.

The commission is providing training to teachers on the Digital Literacy Program. A thousand teachers have already been trained using remote training methods. This means that teachers do not have to be in the classroom to teach, and learners are supported through various methods.

Digital literacy involves teachers from well-equipped schools using technology to share their classes with other schools through live streaming. Currently, there are 180 satellite schools participating in this program. Students receive live lessons from 30 main schools where teaching takes place.

The Teaching Service Commission has hired a total of 76,765 teachers for junior schools. Out of these, 56,765 teachers have been hired on permanent and pensionable terms. Additionally, 20,000 teachers are currently serving as interns. Some primary school teachers are qualified to teach in Junior Secondary Schools and have been assigned to work there.
