TSC transfers 17 teachers after attacks by villagers

TSC has transferred 17 teachers to other stations from St. Gabriel Isongo Secondary School in Mumias East, Kakamega County, adding a new twist after the Principal was recently ejected by angry parents over alleged poor results in the 2023 KCSE examination.

Kakamega County Director of Education (CDE) Hellen Nyang’au and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kakamega Executive Secretary Harrison Otota both have confirmed this morning with Nyang’au adding that the school Board of Management (BoM) will now take over the running of the school.

Nyang’au added that there will be a board meeting in the school today to discuss the matter, which will be followed by a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC).

Otota stated that deployment of other TSC teachers will be discussed during the stakeholders’ meeting adding that the question as to whether other teachers will take over lies between the TSC, MOE and parents.

The transfer of the teachers comes after KUPPET Kakamega branch held demonstrations condemning the forceful ejection of the school Principal, even as the entire Union castigates the ongoing frog-marching of school heads by disgruntled members of the community over poor performance in the 2023 KCSE examinations.
