University of Embu has scored big after emerging position six out of 51 universities in Kenya for scientific research in the latest Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index ranking.

The AD Scientific Index is a ranking system that provides evaluation of world journals and universities based on scientific performance and the added value of the scientific productivity of individual scientists.

The University Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel Mugendi was also recognized among top researchers in Kenya at position 12 for his scholarly articles and contribution in high impact journals in Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management.

The VC who is also a lecturer in the Department of Water and Agricultural Resources Management has authored many books and published many scholarly articles.

20 other lecturers from various departments at the university were also ranked among top researchers countrywide including Dr. Josephine Ngunjiri who emerged position 50 for her contribution to medical and health sciences especially parasitology.

“It is indeed a huge milestone for us and an affirmation of our academic staff commitment towards contributing to groundbreaking research at an international scale,” Prof. Mugendi noted in a press statement released to the media.

He noted that the achievement was a significant indicator of what teamwork could achieve, adding that the university has invested heavily in training and capacity building to strengthen the research output of the academic staff.

“The ranking is a true reflection of the contribution of UoEm to research at the national and international level,” the don said as he appreciated the University Council, Management, Senate, staff and students and stakeholders for their contribution towards the good performance of the university.

The recognition comes barely months after the university was ranked as the best performing State Corporation in Kenya during the 2019/2020 financial year performance contract cycle for Government Ministries, Departments, Agencies, State Corporations and Tertiary Institutions in the Ministry of Education.
