Authorities in Nyamira are looking into the case of Brian Mogaka, a 22-year-old student from Chuka University, who passed away after being repeatedly caned by his uncles in Nyankono village, located in North Mugirango Constituency.
Mogaka had reportedly been suspended from the university due to alleged cannabis use. His mother, Teresa Mogaka, is said to have contacted her brothers for assistance in disciplining him. The uncles restrained Mogaka by tying his hands and feet and then beat him continuously until he succumbed to his injuries.
After his death, they changed his clothes, placed him in bed, and positioned cattle pesticide next to him to cover up the incident before fleeing the scene.
Police from the Ekerenyo station and investigating officers arrived on Tuesday night and transported the body to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital. Assistant chief Joseph Masese noted that the deceased had numerous bruises and injuries consistent with caning.
