Education CS vows ‘clean up’ in Moi University to restore institution’s glory

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos has hinted that investigations have been commenced over mismanagement of Moi university and those found culpable will be sacked.

Speaking while on a tour of Moi University School of Medicine campus in Eldoret, the CS said some hard decisions will be made in order to stabilize the once vibrant institution of higher learning.

“We are prepared to take necessary actions so that our universities are run in a transparent manner so that we have credible institutions offering proper academic qualifications. We are ready to make hard decisions to make sure there is hygiene in this sector,” said Ogamba.

The CS further declared that major changes are to be made in a near future to enhance transparency and accountability at the institution.

“These hard decisions include people going home. Whatever changes that need to be done will be done,” he said.

On the new Higher Education Funding model, Ogamba noted that all sections of the model and it’s variables used will be re-looked.

“The issue of Higher Education Funding model is being looked into, in a few months we will have a model that fits its purpose.”

On Saturday, the CS and other officials from the Ministry of Education visited Moi University, where they signed a return-to-work formula with the University Academic Staff Union (UASU).

The signing of the pact saw an end to the lecturers strike that has crippled learning in the institution since August 2024.
