We will start a nationwide teachers’ strike from 26th August, 2024- Kuppet announces

A showdown between the government and teachers when schools reopen is shaping up after the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) signalled a nationwide strike from August 26,2024.
Union Secretary General, Akello Misori said the decision is informed by TSC’s failure to honour their deal.

Kuppet National Governing Council(NGC) met Thursday at the kasarani Gymnasium before issuing the decision.
On the other hand, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) will hold its National Executive Council(NEC) meeting on Friday at its headquarters in Nairobi with a national strike as its top agenda.

The impending industrial action stems from the government’s failure to allocate Sh.13.3 billion for the implementation of the second phase of the 2021-2025 collective bargaining agreement (CBA) a crucial agreement that was negotiated,signed and deposited in court.

The KUPPET National Governing Council has, today, sanctioned a Nationwide STRiKE effective 26th August,2024. We wish to state that this strike is not just a demand for better pay and conditions of service but a call for respect, fairness, and justice for all teachers in this country.

I urge all teachers to stand united in this struggle. We are stronger when we are together for we have nothing to lose but our chains of servitude.

A clear plan of action shall be released early next week
We shall withdraw our labour untill the government resolves the following demands

1. Immediate full implementation of phase 2 CBA

2. Enhancement of already Deteriorated Medical Cover leading to near collapse of the teachers cover

3. Immediate confirmation of all 46000 interns

4. Immediate confirmation of Delayed promotions of 130000 and Acting deputies appointment

5. Immediate reinstatement of Free day secondary school (FDSE) capitation funds that were reduced to 17,000from 22,244 per learner

6. Immediate Reinstatement of Edu-Afya medical insurance cover and delayed remittance Thirty party deductions

7. Review of CPG and introduction of Administration allowances school Managers
