Well wishers urged to support need students to access quality high school education

Education stakeholders and well-wishers have been urged to support needy children enrolling into secondary schools in a bid for the Country to benefit fully from the government’s 100 percent transition.

Speaking at Nyakongo Boys Boarding Secondary School in Gesima Ward, Kitutu Masaba Constituency, Nyamira County, School Principal Samson Makori said the learning institutions were experiencing a high number of enrollments of children from needy backgrounds owing to the prevailing harsh economic times.

Makori called for support of the learners saying it will lead to improvement in the education sector, create a literate society, and boost development in the Country.

He said poverty had led to default in paying school fees and other levies despite the swelling enrolment which has seen the school’s rise from 400 form-one students in 2020 to 1,800 learners this year and is bound to rise further in the new system.

On the new curriculum, Makori urged the society to prepare for entry of the Competency Based Curriculum saying it was bound to address the gaps experienced in the 8-4-4 system.

He said the new system was more exciting to the learners encompassing the extracurricular activities which were previously ignored, and seeking to teach learners skills and talents.

Makori however appealed for more support saying there were challenges in funding and staffing in the institutions.
