Wilson Sossion enters race to reclaim Knut Secretary General Post

WILSON SOSSION OFFICIALLY DECLARES BID FOR KNUT SG

Wilson Sossion has formally declared his interest in contesting for the Kenya National Union of Teachers, KNUT, Secretary-General in the 2026 union elections.

The Former teachers’ union leader Wilson Sossion has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of Secretary-General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) in the upcoming 2026 elections.

In a letter dated February 18, 2026, and addressed to the General Secretary of KNUT, Sossion officially communicated his interest in the race, signalling what could become a highly anticipated contest within the powerful teachers’ union.

Sossion invoked constitutional and statutory provisions in making his declaration, grounding his bid within established legal frameworks. In the letter, he states:

“Pursuant to article 41 of the constitution of Kenya 2010, Section 31 of the labour relations act, the Constitution of the Kenya National Union of Teachers and all other enabling provisions of law, I Wilson Sossion hereby formally notify you of my interest in contesting for the position of Secretary general of the Kenya National Union of teachers in the forthcoming 2026 Union Elections, as directed and published by the Registrar of Trade Unions.”

The notice reflects a formal compliance approach, positioning the move within Kenya’s broader labour and constitutional governance framework.

Sossion further called for adequate notice to facilitate transparent preparations for the election process. He wrote:

“Kindly issue not less than one (1) month’s notice specifying the date, time and venue of the said elections to enable adequate preparation and participation in accordance with the applicable legal and constitutional requirements.”

The letter was copied to the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection and the National Executive Council (NEC) of KNUT, signalling the seriousness and procedural transparency of the notification.

The development sets the stage for what may become a closely watched contest within the teachers’ union, particularly given KNUT’s historic role in shaping education policy and labour relations in Kenya.

With the 2026 union elections on the horizon, attention is now expected to turn to the electoral timelines, nomination procedures, and potential challengers as the race for the top seat gathers momentum.
