You have up to May, 2019, to comply with directive on Phone Numbers- TSC to teachers

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has given teachers and heads up to 2nd May, 2019, for them to update their phone numbers on the Commission’s portal. Via a circular dated 24th April, 2019, the head of of Corporate Communications at TSC, Kihumba Kimotho, says only five counties have had all their teachers updating their phone numbers. “From the latest returns, only Mandera, Kajiado, Lamu, Makueni and Marsabit counties have attained 100 percent compliance rate,” says Kimotho.

On 24th January, 2019, the TSC boss Dr Nancy Macharia directed all school heads and teachers to update their phone contacts on the Commission’s Teachers Management Information System, TMIS. “In order to improve communication with all its employees, the Commission has installed a Bulk SMS System which will also be linked to other human resource and payroll functions.
In particular, the system will transmit alerts in case of any financial transactions such as loan applications and processing, and/or other third party transactions. This will help to comprehensively address any potential cases of fraud or payroll tampering,”
Dr Macharia had said. In the circular Dr Macharia had indicated that all phone details on the system had been refreshed so as to be captured afresh.

According to Dr Macharia the new bulk SMS system will also be used to give updates on payments, interviews and pension processing, among other Human Resource functions. Teachers whose phone numbers have been updated on TMIS have since received a confirmation SMS thus; ‘Dear….. you have now been registered for TSC Bulk SMS Service- TMIS.’

Those who are yet to update their phone records have therefore been given till 2nd May, 2019, to comply. TMIS is a module in teachers’ online services that captures the following in an institution;
 Institution’s basic details.
 Student enrollment –special or ordinary or both.
 Teachers details including mobile numbers
 Teachers with special needs
 Teachers on study leave
 Subject enrollment for the school
 KCPE/KCSE performance.
