Youths should join Vocational Training – Here are the reasons

The Director-General, Technical Vocational Education and Training Authority Dr. Kipkirui Langat has urged residents of Bomet County to ensure their children who complete form four join technical training institutes, so as to acquire requisite skills to help them prosper in life.

Speaking at Sot Technical Training Institute, Langat said, “We have about 350 public technical and vocational colleges and close to a thousand vocational training centres managed by counties and close to a 1000 private vocational training centres that make close to 2500 technical Institutions in the country.”

He stated that the government was out to standardize skills provision through these institutions to the current 50,000 student population countrywide.

The DG applauded Sot Technical Training Institute for the high number of the students who have enrolled at the facility, noting that residents should take advantage of the college and build residential houses for both students and their trainers.

“Technical and vocational training institutes are the way to go and the government is working hard to standardize skills provided in these centres, I also want to applaud the management of Sot training for its enrollment of 3500 students.

Langat disclosed that the government was privy to the challenges faced by such institutes ranging from a shortage of trainers and poor remunerations due to the recent transition from the Teachers Service Commission to the Public service commission.

The director-general urged residents around these institutions to also make use of them in terms of provision of other services in order to make them prosper economically.

“I am urging members of the local community to seize this opportunity and develop the surrounding area, by building structures to accommodate the growing college population,” he said.
