Baringo County Commissioner (CC) Stephen Kutwa has announced the deployment of more than 2,000 security officers to secure the 2024 National Examinations which kicked off on Tuesday countrywide.

Briefing KNA on the preparedness of the examinations in his Kabarnet office on Wednesday, Kutwa noted that county multi-agency team comprising of security and education officers have firm instructions to ensure that Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) regulations governing National Exams are strictly followed to the letter in both Kenya primary school education assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya certificate of secondary education (KCSE).

The Commissioner indicated that a total of 15,502 candidates are sitting for the KCSE examinations in 198 centres across the seven Sub Counties while another 17,905 for KPSEA in 758 stations with 50 percent being boys and equivalent girls.

The county commissioner added that three candidates will be sitting for their exams in prison.

He stated that additional security personnel have been deployed to examination centres in areas prone to insecurity to reinforce the general security during the entire examination period.

โ€œAreas which had security challenges are relatively calm and we are optimistic that the exams will go on without any hitches,โ€ said Kutwa.

The CC said that this time round no child will sit for the exams outside their registration centres unlike the past where the region witnessed challenges due displacement caused by insecurity and floods.
