National Polytechnics occupy the apex tier of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) structure in Kenya under the TVET Act No. 29 of 2013. These institutions are legal entities established by Legal Orders to offer highly specialized craft, diploma, and advanced higher national diploma programs.
In recent infrastructure upgrades, several prominent Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) were elevated to National Polytechnic status to expand institutional autonomy, industry-linked training capacity, and technological research.

Who controls and regulates all National Polytechnics?
National Polytechnics operate with a level of administrative independence under governing boards but are quality-assured by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) and offer qualifications certified by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) or their own independent qualification curriculum frameworks aligned with the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
