Junior Secondary School learners to have own uniform, School Fees, BOMs

Junior secondary schools will have uniform and administrative structures. This is according to the latest recommendations from the task force on Educational reforms and which have been adopted by the government.

Parents will now have to get new uniforms for their kids joining Junior Secondary schools at grade 7.

The Junior Secondary schools will also have their own Boards of Management, BOM. These Boards will be tasked with overseeing the institution’s operations and financial management.

Equally, Primary school head teachers will be in charge of the Junior Secondary schools; in acting capacity with TSC expected to appoint and post new administrators. The heads will  be in charge of the schools for just one year and will act as Secretaries to the BOMs.

JSS is secondary, only that they will share a compound with the primary school. It will have its own teachers and later even its own principal, when properly constituted.

The schools will also have own teachers posted by the Teachers Service Commission, TSC.

More Funding

The national government through the Ministry of education will provide more funding for junior secondary schools (JSS) than what it will give for primary and high schools in a bid to support development of the new academic programmes countrywide. This is according to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

“We are aware of lack of staffing in our public schools. We have levels seven, eight and nine, and they will continue in their respective schools with increased funding to enhance their academic success.” CSMachogu announced.
