BOM teachers’ salaries; Education Ministry releases Sh15 Billion
The government has finally released funds for payment of salaries for Board of Management (BOM) teachers and staff. Close to Sh15.4 Billion has been released to all public school accounts to cater for salaries of BOM staff and prepare for reopening of schools.
Details from the Ministry of education show that Sh13.3 Billion will be used to make necessary preparations in schools; ahead of reopening. Another Sh2.2 B will be utilized in clearing salary arrears for BOM teachers and staff.
In the latest disbursement, a total of Sh5,151 per child has been released to school accounts. In a further break down of the figures, Sh750 has been allocated for each learner to cater for the BOM teachers’ salaries. The Personal Emolument vote head has received Sh2,246 per learner registered in the National Education Management Information System, NEMIS.
The National Hospital Insurance Fund, NHIF, and Repairs have been awarded Sh500 and Sh5,151 respectively.

The Ministry has at the same time released lists of verified BOM teachers who will receive the salaries. A recent data collection exercise conducted by the Ministry showed that the number of active BOM teachers is much lower than the 40,000 figure produced by TSC.
