Its celebration time as several schools in Homa Bay record good performances in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Among the schools that performed exemplarily in the just released KCSE results by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu were Orero Boys High School in Rangwe constituency, Mbita High School in Suba North Constituency, and Asumbi Girls.
Orero Boys came first in the county with a mean score of 9.288, while Mbita High School and Asumbi Girls with registered mean scores of 9.26 and 8.36.
Others including Gendia Boys High School, Oriwo Boys and Homa Bay High School, recorded 8.079, 7.9 and 7.1 mean scores, respectively.
As compared to the 2022 KCSE results, Mbita High School has maintained its mean score, which at the time was 9.2 points.
Orero Boys has, however, recorded a drop of 0.7 from the last KCSE’s mean score of 9.9, while Asumbi Girls registered the highest drop of 2.01points from 10.37.
The schools’ principals owed their performances to hard work, discipline and team work.
Speaking to journalists, Dickens Otieno, the Principal of Orero Boys High School said his candidates performed exemplarily in sciences, languages and Mathematics.
The deputy principal of Asumbi Girls Jane Mutahi said the school produced 7-As, 60-B+ (plus), 158-Bs, and 166-B- (minus).
“We still have more than 100 students whose results we are still computing,” she added.
However, another secondary school in Rangwe Sub County, Wikoteng’ Mixed has made history after guaranteeing 50 of its students a placement in university due to their exemplary performance.
The school which had a mean score of 3.8 in 2022 however recorded 5.3 points in last year’s KCSE, which is an improvement of 1.5.
The school’s principal Almada Majina, attributed this improvement to hard work and teamwork from teachers as well as the candidates.
