Top schools in Meru County posted good results with others making remarkable improvements from previous examinations, in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE) results announced yesterday, by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), Ezekiel Machogu.
St Mary’s Girls High School in Igoji is one of the schools that recorded good results that attracted celebrations from the members of the teaching and non-teaching staff.
The school’s principal, Ms. Florence Mutwiri, told journalists that the girls had made them proud with their improvement, having attained a mean score of 8.89, a positive index of 0.6 from the previous year, when they had a mean grade of 8.2.
They had three straight A’s, 53 A minus, 62 B plus, 79 B plain, 76 B minus, 40 C plus, 17 C plain and the last six students scored C minus.
“The results were very credible and clean, and we celebrate them for being very well-behaved during the exam season,” said Ms. Mutwiri.
She praised the current system of releasing the results, adding that it was much better than the SMS scheme, as they were getting the results faster.
Nkubu Boys High School, Meru School, and Igembe Boys were other schools that not only posted good results but also recorded remarkable percentages of students who will be transiting to university.
At Nkubu Boys Principal, Dr Stephen Munyiri, and other staff members, were happy after three students got straight A’s and 19 others got A minus, ensuring a mean of 8.4 up from 8.1 in the previous year.
Out of 397 candidates who sat the examination, 361 got university grades, which Dr. Munyiri attributed to commitment by teachers and disciplined students.
Igembe Boys principal, Lawrence Mutembei, said the class of 280 students recorded a mean of 8.81 and out of these students 277, will proceed to the university.
“Once again our learners have done well and fulfilled their dreams and our commitment is always to see them excel,” Mr. Mutembei said.
At Meru School, Principal Mwenda Rutere and his staff were happy after 22 students got A’s with a mean score of 8.9.
“We did a lot of preparation, and both the teachers and students worked together to achieve the common goal of doing their best,” he said.
